Are You a Good Manager?

Most people pride themselves on performing their job well. A manager's job can be tricky at times. Not only are they working on assignments, but they also have to manage a team of employees working on their own projects.

There are many different management styles. Some work for others and some do not. A good manager must be flexible depending on the personality of their employees. There are some basic skills every manager should possess.

Do you efficiently manage your time?

Do you meet deadlines on time or ahead of schedule? Does your team work a lot of overtime due to looming deadlines? A strong manager is good at delegating and keeping employees on task. Time management is an important characteristic of a good manager.

Are you a strong leader?

Do you naturally take charge of situations? Do people naturally tend to follow your direction? Being a strong leader means earning respect by giving it, being able to lead by example and motivate those around you. Are you getting positive feedback from your employees? Evaluate your leadership technique.

Do you set goals that will lead to more success for your company?

Everything a manager should do should benefit the company. When making decisions ask yourself, "is this good for the company?" A good manager will work towards the greater good of the company. If the company doesn't succeed no personal success of the manager can compensate for the failure of the business.

Can you motivate your team?

Working towards a common goal can be exciting and frustrating. How do you handle roadblocks in your team's progress? How do you deal with someone that isn't being as productive as they should be? When a manager is able to motivate their team to finish difficult tasks that makes them great. Being able to manage and motivate someone that performs poorly makes a great leader.
